Yeast Infection (MEN) – Men Don't Talk

Without a shadow of doubt yeast infection in men is much more prevalent than you like to think. The simple fact of the matter is that men in general don't like to talk about their ailments with their peers or friends. This is especially true with a yeast infection as it is predominantly thought of as a female complaint. There are however many natural treatments available which can be applied at home and many of the treatments that are available for treating women can be equally applicable to men.

Yeast Infection (MEN) – Yeast Infection Causes in MenYeast Infection In Men

As is commonplace in women diet is a major contributing factor to yeast infection in men. Men tend to like drinks and food with a high yeast content such as wine and beer, cheese etc. An excellent first step with a suspected yeast infection is to cut out these foods, as well as those high in sugar, and see if the symptoms subside at all. If they do then this has gone some way towards confirming what the real problem is. Diet isn't the only cause of yeast infection of course. Unprotected sex with someone already infected may pass the infection along. The use of antibiotics over an extended period will kill the good bacteria in the gut that helps keep the Candida Albicans organisms under control. A population explosion of the Candida Albicans organism is what constitutes a yeast infection. The yeast cells thrive in warm, moist, dark conditions. Uncircumsised men are more at risk than circumcised men due to the foreskin holding more moisture against the head of the penis, leading to a localised penis yeast infection. A quick safety note: if you know you have a yeast infection and you must have sex then please protect yourself and your partner by using a condom, this will prevent passing the infection back and forth between you. The condom lubricant nonoxynol-9 may help start yeast infections. These infections can be vaginal in the case of women or anal in either women or homosexual men.

Yeast Infection (MEN) – Symptoms of a Yeast Infection

Male yeast infection symptoms can closely resemble the female symptoms. The penis may develop a red coloured rash which is incredibly itchy. The head of the penis may also develop small blisters. In addition there may also be a certain amount of discharge which may or may not be white in colour and have a lumpy consistency. Urination may also become extremely painful. The following characteristics have been attributed at one time or another to yeast infection in men and if more than one occur at any one time it may be a strong indication that a yeast infection is to blame.

  • simple indigestion
  • diarrhoea or constipation
  • excessive gas
  • distended stomach
  • bad breath
  • irrational mood swings
  • sexual malfunction

It's important for men to realise that they may have a yeast problem as many will think that their symptoms are simply a sign of growing older, especially when most men will normally experience some of them at certain points in their life. But two or more together could point to a yeast infection. As mentioned above, a change in diet, or even lifestyle, is necessary to combat these infections. Also avoid wearing tight fitting clothes, a good flow of air will keep the infected area drier. Try to bring your stress levels down which will boost your immune system and help it fight any proliferation of Candida Albicans.
