What is Boric Acid
Boric acid is a solid not found in nature. It is man-made by combining Borax and Sulfuric acid.
It is only slightly acidic and is safe enough to use as a medical eye wash.
How Does Boric Acid Help Yeast Infections
Using Boric acid raises the acidity level of any region of the body it is introduced to. The natural pH level of the vagina is slightly acidic. Yeast cannot thrive in an acidic envirnment. By raising the acidity levels to a more normal state like this the multiplication of yeast is checked and the yeast infection is arrested.
Other Benefits of Boric Acid in the Treatment of Yeast Infections
Boric acid is known as a great healing and cleansing product. It has been used for many years for the treatment of numerous conditions, where it can greatly reduce the normal healing times. It does this partly by preventing infection in affected areas.
It aids in the healing process within the vagina when used as a suppository and also calms the itching most often associated with this type of infection. It helps reduce inflammation and acts as an antiseptic agent, it also has active antifungal properties.
The Most Favored Method for Applying Boric Acid
By far the most used method, and the safest, is Boric Acid capsules inserted directly into the vagina. Some may find using them produces a level of discomfort or burning sensation.
The capsules are usually taken nightly. The treatment usually only has to be continued for about three days before a significant improvement is felt. However, expect a course of treatment to last a week.
When used in this way it will enevitably produce a wattery discharge so use a good pad during use.
As Boric acid must not be taken internally, having it enclosed in capsule form is good practice and avoids the chance of any powder escaping.
There are two ways of getting the capsules, either in ready made form, or by buying the Boric acid as a powder and then getting the empty capsules separately, which you then fill yourself. Filling them this way works out cheaper for you. Use 600 mg of Boric Acid per capsule.
Please note that Boric acid should not be used by children or pregnant women and it should definately not be taken orally. It is especially damaging to the devleoping fetus so please take even more care if you think you are or may be pregnant.
Do not use it on broken skin or cuts.
Another word of caution, please do read the instructions for the use of this substance carfeully. I’m not trying to be a scaremonger here, but it is toxic and its use must be strictly controlled.
